Sometimes, we all wish for a little bit more harmony in our workplace, and it can be very easy to achieve this by utilizing feng shui in your office workstation. This can actually help you to work more efficiently and be more productive – something your boss, no matter how skeptical, really should love! Use these basic guidelines to get you started:

  • Place your chair so that you can always see who is entering your office workstation space. Sitting with your back to the entrance allows visitors to surprise you, which can be disruptive and create a sense of insecurity.
  • Remove any “shars” (sharp objects) from your space, as this causes chi (energy) to become pricked and to not flow. A great example of this is scissors or a letter opener – put them into a drawer in your workstation.
  • You should emphasize the wood element in your office workstation as it signifies growth. Do this by choosing items that are yellow, cream or beige in colour.
  • Remove clutter and rubbish from your space. Whilst this has health advantages, removing clutter for feng shui can make it much easier to concentrate, as you don’t have to delve through the piles on your desk.
  • Invest in some plants that have rounded or pear-shaped leaves, as these represent wood and earth. Placed nearby to an office workstation, they can give computer-weary eyes a break.
  • Place chairs for your visitors to sit in so that they face the entrance to the space at least sideways. This will make them feel more comfortable and welcomed in your space.

As you can see, some simple rearranging can really bring about a huge change in the harmony of your office workstation. It can also improve your concentration, thereby encouraging you to work more efficiently and productively. Feng shui is great for use in any office space.

Do you need to do some work at home or just want a comfy spot to pay bills and keep your family files in order? Carving out a space in your home for a desk, chair and storage can improve your productivity at home and keep you focused rather than distracted by the TV, couch or kitchen. You can dedicate a full room to your home office, but if you don't have the space, a much better alternative is to set up a compact office workstation in a nook or corner of your home.

Start out by collecting the essential elements for your productive space in the home, including the desk and ergonomic chair. You could get your home office workstation completely built in, with a floating desk and storage cabinets, for a sturdy and clean look. Alternatively, you can simply use a compact table at the right height to hold your computer and office paraphernalia.

You should aim to make your home office workstation as organised as possible by keeping everything you need in the same spot. Try using a convenient file storage unit, such as a lateral file cabinet or flat file storage unit that makes finding important files easier. To store other objects  around your desk, use some high shelves or a bookcase to keep books and stationery close at hand.

The placement of your desk in the home is very important. The office workstation should be in the part of the home where you feel most comfortable and productive, but be careful to not sit too close to the bed or couch to make sure you don't get too comfortable! Try to find a sunny spot in the house that stays quiet for most of the day.

To form the healthiest and most supportive workplace possible, you should consider purchasing fully adjustable desks and chairs for your employees. Adjustable office workstations typically include a variety of adjustable features, including height and posture adjustments on the ergonomic chair and height and angle adjusters on the desk and computer supports.

For a simple but ergonomic solution, you could choose office workstations with height adjustable table legs. A height adjustable desk can easily bring the individual's work surface to an easy to use level, ensuring that they do not slump or strain to work comfortably. If your business requires employees to sit at a computer for the majority of the day, an ergonomic office workstation is not just desirable, but necessary for their long term health.

To make sure that you are getting the healthiest office workstations possible, choose models that comply with the latest standards for health, safety and ergonomics in the workplace. These desks actively relieve back pain and improve productivity. Whatever industry you are in, good posture is key for maintaining good health and avoiding chronic pain, so choose adjustable desks to suit the space and functionality needs of your employees.

You can complement your adjustable desks with various health and safety measures in the workplace for a comprehensive solution to fighting chronic back pain and work related fatigue. Choose chairs for your office workstations that allow the sitter to change positions as they please, so that stress and pressure is not continually placed on one body part, such as the buttocks or thighs.
